New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Mayor Zohran Mamdani has promised $2.5 billion in green upgrades to public housing, including providing energy-efficient water and lighting systems in 45,000 apartments, adding new heating pumps into 20,000 homes, installing 10,000 induction stoves and providing 150 public electric vehicle charging stations in NYCHA parking lots. However, many residents, including those of the Woodside Houses, expressed dissatisfaction with the city's focus on addressing basic issues such as mold, mold, cracks in the walls, and broken pipes. The five-year plan is projected to cost nearly $2,5 billion, of which $1.2 billion has yet to be found. The agenda aims to fulfill its green goals by 2031.
