Senate President Karen Spilka is being sued for blocking the voter-approved audit of the state Legislature, which was approved by 72% of Bay Staters 16 months ago. She argues that Auditor Diana DiZoglio is acting like a monarch and that the Legislature is audited every single year. State Rep. Danielle Gregoire, a fellow Democrat from Framingham, defended Senate President and House Speaker, Spillka, arguing that the public can find procurements, contracts, expenditures and salaries on the state Comptroller’s website. The Society of Professional Journalists recently named Massachusetts as the 2026 Black Hole Award, highlighting a lack of transparency and disregard for the public's right to know. The criticism of the audit and the lawsuit by Councilor Michael Cannon was met with surprise.
