Archaeologists from Germany and Switzerland have confirmed a practice previously only seen in ancient Roman texts, known as the burning of wine and frankincense in domestic Roman rituals. The researchers found that the structure and chemistry of these residues could reveal offerings to the gods, indicating a significant global scale of the ancient world. The findings were published in the journal Antiquity. However, there are some caveats due to the extensive post-excavation histories of both artifacts.
