China has welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and the US, amid reports that it was involved in securing the two-week stand-off and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that China has consistently advocated for a ceasefire and a resolution of disputes through diplomatic channels. She also supported efforts to mediate with Pakistan and other countries. Reports suggest that China encouraged Iran to agree to a ceasefire before US President Donald Trump's ultimatum was due to expire.
