A powerful tornado in Oklahoma destroyed homes, damaged a rural community near Vance Air Force Base, causing significant damage to Enid, a city of about 50,000 people near the state's northern border. The tornado ripped roofs off buildings and reduced others to rubble, knocked down power poles and caused minor injuries. Some residents were trapped in their homes by debris and had to be rescued. The worst damage was caused in Gray Ridge, a neighborhood on the south side of Enid. No immediate reports of fatalities or injuries have been reported. The National Weather Service predicts more storms are possible through Friday night across south-central and southeast Oklahoma, with strong to severe thunderstorms expected in the area.
