Oklahoma voters will soon decide if the current voter ID laws should be permanent in the state constitution. The resolution, passed in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, aims to enshrine the current current voter identification law into the state's constitution. If this becomes part of the constitution, it would require voters to present proof of identity when voting. Republicans argue that adding these laws into the constitution is a good safety net, while Democrats argue that it could alter the current law. A special election on August 25 will decide whether to amend the state Constitution to require proof of ID when voting, which could result in a change down the road. The bill requires voters to provide a DOCUMENTENT USED FOR PROOF to register to vote, including a passport or birth certificate.
