The Virginia Supreme Court has allowed a lower court order temporarily blocking the state from certifying the results of a redistricting referendum to stand. This decision comes as Florida lawmakers convene for a special session to address several legislative priorities, including a proposed new set of congressional lines aimed at helping the GOP gain four additional House seats in the midterms. The referendum, approved last Tuesday, allows Democrats to redraw congressional lines mid-cycle in hopes of winning four House seats. The state Supreme Court is also considering a separate challenge brought by Republicans alleging that Democratic lawmakers improperly expanded a special legislative session to redistricting.
