President Trump announced that federal stock holdings in Intel generated over $30 billion over the last 90 days, following his approval of the government's investment in the semiconductor chip manufacturing company. The government paid $8.9 billion for 433.3 million shares of Intel common stock, with $5.7 billion from grants under the CHIPS and Science Act. The remaining $3.2 billion came from another program focused on making secure chips. The purchase was approved by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who supported the use of the provisions. However, several Republicans, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), opposed the investment, calling it a "terrible idea" and a "step toward socialism".
