American YouTuber Johnny Somali, real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael, has been jailed for six months in South Korea on public nuisance charges and other charges. The 25-year-old man, known for his provocative videos on YouTube and Twitch, had been barred from leaving South Korea since his indictment in 2024. His actions during a visit to Seoul in 2024 sparked controversy when he posted a video showing him kissing a statue honoring women forced into wartime sexual slavery. The issue is particularly sensitive in the country, where South Korea continues to demand an apology from Japan. Somali was sentenced to an additional 20 days in detention and is barred from working with children and people with disabilities for five years.
