A team of researchers from the University of Glasgow has successfully reconstructed 42 pages of a manuscript from a 6th century anthology of Paul's letters, Codex H. The pages were disassembled at the Great Lavra Monastery on Mount Athos, Greece, sometime in the 13th century and reused as binding material for other manuscripts. The researchers discovered that the pages included ancient chapter lists, scribal insights, and medieval recyclings. They used multispectral imaging to recover ‘ghost’ text that no longer physically exists, which was used to retrieve multiple pages of information. The discovery was made through radiocarbon dating.
