A federal grand jury has indicted the governor of Mexico's Sinaloa state and nine other Mexican state officials with drug trafficking and weapons charges. The charges stem from allegations that Ruben Rocha Moya worked with cartels to bring drugs into the US in exchange for bribes and favors. The accused officials allegedly helped a faction of the cartel led by the Chapitos, the sons of Joaquin Guzman Loera, the former leader of the Sataloa cartel. The indictment alleges that Rocho Moya promised to appoint officials favorable to their drug trafficking operations if elected in 2021. Mexico's Foreign Ministry has received extradition requests from the US government but has deemed insufficient evidence to substantiate these claims.
