The non-Black voters who successfully challenged Louisiana's congressional map have asked the Supreme Court for more time to approve a new map before the November election. The state's primary is scheduled for May 16 and early voting is set to begin May 2. The Supreme Court rejected the map 6-3, arguing it relied too heavily on race and cost the state a Republican seat. The lower court must now decide on which map should be used this year. The new map could allow Republicans to gain one or two seats in Louisiana and help them maintain control of the U.S. House of Representatives. However, the ruling may not have been issued in time to make a significant difference in this year's midterm elections.
