The first morel sightings have been reported in southern Minnesota, with reports from Ironwood Foraging Co. reporting social media sightings of morels in Ramsey, Wright and Olmsted counties. Peter Martignacco, president of the Minnesota Mycological Society, said the state needs more rain for these highly sought-after mushrooms to thrive. Those interested in foraging tips can join a virtual meeting about spring mushrooms at 7 p.m. on April 27. The Minnesota Orienteering Club will celebrate its 50th year with events at Lake Elmo Regional Park and Lake Maria State Park on April 25 and 26. The club credits its longevity to passionate members who enjoy it for "exercise, exploration, and problem-solving."
