BJ’s takes on Costco with major expansion

BJ's Wholesale Club is expanding into Texas, a state that has historically been a strong market for Costco and Sam's Club. The company recently opened its first Texas location in Forney, marking its entry into its 22nd state and its 264th warehouse club store overall. This expansion is part of a larger plan for BJ's to open between 25 and 30 new clubs by the end of 2026. Despite this, BJ's CEO Bob Eddy stated that the company's value and convenience model will resonate with families in Texas and across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. However, this expansion may not be a threat to Costco, as Costco operates at a different scale and operates more than 800 warehouse club locations worldwide.
