The arrest has been made in the 1991 murder of 35-year-old Cindy Wanner in Placer County, California. The suspect, James Lawhead Jr, was a known sex offender who had only been out of prison 10 months when Wanner was kidnapped and murdered. His remains were found three weeks later in Foresthill, near the Tahoe National Forest. Lawhead was arrested in 2002 for failing to register as a sex offender in Plac County, and fled California under an assumed name, Vincent Reynolds. He is currently awaiting extradition from Mojave County, Arizona back to Plac. His sister, Teri Lawhead, has also been arrested in South Carolina and charged as an accessory to the crime.
