Wisconsin's Twig's Beverage company still uses a centuries-old bottling process, which traces back to the 18th century. The company, which charges a $20 deposit on each case returned when customers return the case of empty bottles, maintains a decades-old packaging license and nearly 20 of its own soda flavors. Despite the rise of mass-produced plastic, the company continues to honor bottle returns across its home county. The returnable bottle scheme offers several advantages, including community participation and practical benefits.
