Former Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin has urged Virginians to vote "no" on a redistricting referendum, arguing that it would give Virginia the most gerrymandered congressional map in the country and would disenfranchise millions of Virginians by concentrating several districts in Northern Virginia. This comes as current Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger has urged a "yes" vote, arguing the referendum is necessary to counter President Donald Trump's efforts to redraw congressional maps in favor of Republicans. However, Republican Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) dismissed this argument as "hogwash".
