The TV Academy has attempted to clarify its rules regarding AI use in its upcoming Emmys season, with a statement stating that the Academy reserves the right to inquire about the use of AI in submissions. However, critics argue that these guidelines leave too much room for AI to play a significant role in writing, acting and other creative disciplines in Emmy nominees. This has led to criticism from numerous TV writers and producers, including Academy members Stan Brooks, who believe an AI-aided script or performance should be disqualified in writing and acting categories. The controversy raises questions about the nature of art, whether it can be achieved by human autonomy or can it also be achieved via an autonomous tool? Some argue that AI-assisted art should be judged equally equally as art created solely by a human. The TV Academy also hosted multiple AI summits and suggested that a showrunner assisted by AI could win an Emmy.
