The Trump administration has successfully reduced the number of border apprehensions and releases, compared to the previous administration's record 11 million border encounters under Joe Biden. The Department of Homeland Security has reported its 11th consecutive month of zero releases at the southern border. The administration has also succeeded in reducing the legal migration of legal migrants entering the country. David Bier, director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute, criticizes President Donald Trump for this, claiming that his success in curbing illegal alien entries was a gift from the previous government. He also criticizes the administration for reducing the number number of international student visas, which he predicts will be a tiny fraction of the anticipated student visa numbers in 2026. Bier also criticises the H-1B visa program, which allows foreign students to temporarily temporarily occupy temporary positions in the US.
