The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (DHE) has issued an air quality health advisory for central and eastern Kansas as prescribed burning continues across the Flint Hills. The burns, which release large amounts of particulate matter and other materials that can create ozone, can cause health problems, particularly in vulnerable individuals like children or the elderly. The advisory suggests that unusually sensitive individuals should limit outdoor activities. The Kansas Turnpike Authority also issued a warning to drivers traveling through the Flint hills. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for a large portion of the state on Thursday.
