Sussex trawling ban: new protections for marine habitats

The Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) has announced a ban on fishing in the Beachy Head East Marine Conservation Zone off the coast of the county, which is home to seahorses and reef building worms. The ban is aimed at conserving some of the most important marine habitats within the Sussex district. From today, trawls, seines, dredges, or similar fishing gear are prohibited from being used in the 164 sq km zone 1 of the site.
