Oklahoma high school principal Kirk Moore successfully tackled a gunman, Victor Lee Hawkins, who was armed with two semiautomatic handguns and attempted to shoot one student but was thwarted by a malfunctioning weapon. Hawkins then opened fire on another student, but was allowed to leave as other pupils followed him. Moore tackled Hawkins, pinning him down on a bench and removing the gun from his hand. Hawkins, a former student at the school, has been charged with attempted murder, attempted arson, and public assembly weapon possession. Hawkins admitted to having taken the firearms belonging to his father without permission and intended to kill students, faculty members, and himself. Moore was shot in a leg and hospitalized.
