Residents and business owners in Charlotte, North Carolina, are urging the City Council to consider adding noise cameras to help enforce the city's noise laws. The issue is particularly acute as drivers with modified mufflers with such devices are violating state and local laws. Some residents have recorded a video recording of the nuisance noise caused by these drivers. The Grand Bohemian Hotel General Manager, Hugh Templeman, said the issue negatively impacts his business and has led to negative reviews from guests citing the noise as a reason they won't return. The noise is also a safety issue as well as an annoyance and affects sleep, stress, and well-being. The sound-activated street cameras could be used to better enforce the noise rules, but not identify violators.
