St. Paul man who was granted new trial in 2020 Eagan fatal shooting pleads guilty instead

Robert Lee Baker, a St. Paul man, was granted a new trial in the 2020 fatal shooting of Maurice Antonio Anderson, 29, during an Eagan drug deal. The Minnesota Supreme Court reversed a Court of Appeals decision and remanded the case back to Dakota County District Court for a new court, stating that jurors should have heard instructions on Baker's claim of self-defense and defense of others. The plea agreement allows Baker to face a prison sentence between 17 and 24 years. The judge ruled that the defense failed to establish that Baker was not the initial aggressor and that Baker did not use a reasonable amount of force.
