The Florida Supreme Court has halted the execution of former Lake County police officer James Duckett, who was convicted in 1988 of raping, choking and drowning an 11-year-old girl. The court approved six of the seven Supreme Court justices, including Justice Adam Tanenbaum, to stay the execution pending further orders. The justices also ordered the state to provide them with a report on the DNA testing status by 5 p.m. Friday. The stay is temporary and could be reinstated by the court after the DNA results are completed. The DNA testing is being conducted on pubic hair found in Teresa McAbee's panties and a now-dried vaginal swab with semen.
