Islanders’ first-rounder Victor Eklund coming stateside — and bringing ‘energy’ with him

Islanders' first-round pick, Victor Eklund, is set to join the AHL Bridgeport Islanders after his Swedish season ended with a playoff loss to Malmo. It is unclear whether he will make his debut over the weekend, with Bridgeport facing Laval and Providence playing in Providence. Eklund finished the season with six goals and 18 assists over 43 games in the SHL, his first year in Sweden's top division. His close friend, Anton Frondell, praised Eklund's hard work and energy. The team also signed goaltender Josh Kotai to a two-year entry-level deal with the Isles.
