2026 Polar Plunge Chicago: Many brave frigid Lake Michigan, raise over $1.5M for Special Olympics

Thousands of people participated in the 2026 Polar Plunge Chicago, raising over $1.5 million for Special Olympics Illinois. Over 4,300 participants said the cause was worth it as they were changing the way people think about diversity. Matt Buck, who was diagnosed with autism, found opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics through Special Children's Charities, an organization that raises millions for children to live out their best lives. The event was held at North Avenue Beach in Chicago. There are still ways to support the organization.
