Column: Oak Forest’s Alex Sebek celebrates being state runner-up again. Especially after injuries. ‘Grateful.’

Alex Sebek, a senior from Oak Forest, won the 100-pound state championship match against Huntley's Janiah Slaughter, marking her second runner-up finish. Sebek had to return from two ACL tears in her right knee, which ended her sophomore year and wiped out most of her junior season. She returned with a successful comeback and won the first 33 matches before losing the state final. Despite her setbacks, Sebek remains grateful and grateful for the support she received. Other notable performances included a third-place finish for the Oak Forest team, which also won the program's first state trophy.
