A study by the University of Queensland, Australia, has revealed that scorpions contain metals such as zinc, manganese, and iron in their stingers and pincers. The researchers used high-resolution scanning electron microscopy and microscopy to map the molecular structure of the scorpions' weaponry. They also found that zinc was heavily concentrated at the extreme tip of the aculeus, indicating the importance of maintaining the strength of the stinger. The study, published in the Journal of The Royal Society Interface, indicates that this is not an accident.
