The article discusses the difficulty of interacting with other foreigners in Mexico, particularly foreigners, as many of whom are generally enamored with Mexican culture but are not familiar with their own cultures. This can be difficult when dealing with others from the same culture. The author reflects on her own experiences with a study-abroad group with the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa in 2002 and a few foreigners living in Querétaro, where she encountered more foreigners who were other teachers at the American school where she taught. Her attitude towards other foreigners has evolved since her time in Mexico and she has become less of a snob. Despite her struggles, she acknowledges that being from Mexico does not necessarily mean that you're not going to like them.
