The "Save Willy Act," a bill introduced by California Rep. Sam Liccardo, aims to prevent the deaths of whales in the San Francisco Bay Area. The bill would establish a "Whale Desk" within the U.S. Coast Guard’s San Francisco station. Liccardos argues that nearly one in five gray whales that enter the San. Francisco Bay die there. So far this year, nine gray whales have died in the Bay Area, with the latest being near Alcatraz. The legislation is co-sponsored by several California representatives.
