A Florida couple, Antonio "Tony" Rivera and Brianna Rutledge, were stranded in the ocean while scuba diving off the coast of Boca Grande on April 16. The couple believe the anchor on their boat failed while they were underwater. They were forced to swim to a buoy about a mile from shore and used a dive light to attract potential rescuers. Eventually, Charlotte County Fire & EMS received a report of a flashing SOS approximately a mile offshore near Gasparilla Pass and rescued the couple. The pair expressed gratitude for their survival and hope others will learn from their ordeal.
