Harvey Weinstein's Manhattan Supreme Court retrial is taking place, where a prosecutor in his case alleges that he preyed on Jessica Mann, a young woman he found to be the most powerful figure in Hollywood. The prosecutor, Candace White, described how Weinstein manipulated Mann as a "fragile and shattered" young woman who came from a different world at the time of the alleged rape. The case is on one count of third-degree rape, which alleges that Weinstein brutally raped Mann at the DoubleTree hotel in March 2013. Despite previous convictions, which were overturned in 2024 due to unrelated testimony, White told jurors that no transaction benefited Mann, with promises about acting gigs and opportunities usually following demands for sex never materializing. Weinstein, now 73, has pleaded not guilty to all counts of rape and has been accused of multiple sex crimes.
