Apple's WhatCable app, a mobile app that makes sense of USB-C cable confusion, has been gaining popularity among users with a large number of unlabeled cables. The app, created by software developer Darryl Morley, aims to clarify what each cable can do with a single type of USB connector, allowing users to charge devices, transfer data, and even send video using just one cable. The USB Implementor’s Forum, which manages compliance with the USB standard, has released a series of logos to clarify each cable's capabilities. WhatCABLE, which is free and open source, provides useful information about what different types of cables can do. It also provides a standard Dock app to indicate if a cable can handle data and power power, as well as if it can transmit data and how fast it can be done.
