A Wayne County Prosecutor's Office employee, Julisa Abad, has received a Spirit of Detroit Award in recognition of her role in advocating for transgender rights. City Council Member Gabriela Santiago-Romero addressed the issue during a council session, emphasizing the need for support for trans residents who pay taxes and patronize local businesses. The award was presented to Abad during which Council President James Tate expressed his support for the transgiveness of his transsexuality. Additionally, City Council member Angela Whitfield-Calloway has requested a policy on AI use in the city regarding its use.
