Iconic Massachusetts steakhouse, Hilltop Steak House, left behind a permanent landmark after its closure in 2013. The restaurant, which opened in 1961, had room for 1,500 patrons, could park 1,000 cars, and often still had a line. Despite its demise, the restaurant's neon cactus now advertises for a mixed-use community built on its footprint along Route 1. The only relic of the Hilltop is the sign that once displayed the restaurant name. The Hilltop's success was attributed to restaurateur Frank Giuffrida, who maintained a 30-year business in Saugus.
