A Harlem developer, Bruce Teitelbaum, paused construction of a major Harlem project to allow a Muslim congregation whose mosque had a fire that left them without a permanent home for Eid al-Fitr. The fire at the Timbuktu Islamic Center was caused by a fire, rendering the mosque temporarily unusable for Eid Al Fitr celebrations. Teetelbaum and his partners, who are building a project nine years in the works approved by the City Council, delayed construction of One45 Harlem, three buildings set to house nearly 1,100 residential units, including about 350 affordable units. The temporary mosque was used as a temporary worship site for hundreds of worshippers who gathered in a tent on March 20.
