A $189 million project to improve Illinois 53 from Lake Cook Road to Interstate 90 in Rolling Meadows, Palatine, and Arlington Heights, Illinois, has resumed. The work includes rehabilitating bridges at Kirchoff Road, Industrial Avenue, Northwest Highway, and Palatina Road. The majority of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with landscaping and miscellaneous work expected in spring 2027. Major delays are expected, with several ramps expected to close until late April for pier demolition and construction. The project is part of Gov. JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois capital program, investing $33.2 billion into transportation.
