Google has introduced AI Mode in Chrome, making it easier to access content and explore it further without needing to switch tabs. This move is seen as a warning shot for SEO professionals as search is becoming a trust test. The new interface allows users to start with a Google-generated answer, stay in the AI interface, open publisher pages side by side, and keep asking follow-up questions without restarting the journey. This shift has implications for reporting, budget allocation, and internal buy-in. However, this change is not a concession to publishers, but a structural change in what a click even means. He also highlighted that the open web is still relevant, as Google still needs users to explore publisher pages.
