New York City nannies are being targeted by moms anonymously monitoring and shaming them on social media groups like Moms of the Upper East Side (MUES) and Stroller Patrol, a site dedicated to child safety. These posts detail infractions ranging from minor to serious, sparking debate. Former nanny Melissa Nelson, who worked as a nanny for 22 years, blames anonymous posts in Facebook groups for increased shaming and privacy invasion. She also believes that some parents have become more fussy and neurotic after spending years in lockdown with their young children near them. The social media surveillance comes amidst a trend of more monitoring of children and childcare providers, with more parents using Apple AirTags on their children's whereabouts. The nanny cam market is predicted to be worth $1.5 billion by 2024, according to Market Report Analytics.
