The Venezuelan government's amnesty law, introduced in 2003, has resulted in nearly 500 political prisoners being freed under it, but many are believed to still in jail. Foro Penal has criticised the decision to end the scheme, stating that despite its limitations, it is a first step towards dismantling the repressive framework that has plagued Venezuela in recent years.
