More Metro Detroit sellers becoming landlords

Zillow has identified a trend of "accidental landlords" in Detroit, with 2.3% of all rental listings on its platform in October being for sale. This shift has occurred since the mid-1990s when mortgage rates were high. The most common form of landlords is in Texas, Florida, and the Northeast and Midwest markets. These individuals also add homes to the rental pool, which can significantly increase rent prices.
