San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has urged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to reconsider plans to use a warehouse as an immigration processing center. The warehouse was purchased by the federal government for $66.1 million earlier this year, sparking outcry and calls for transparency. Jones has expressed her opposition to ICE's plan to use the warehouse as a detention facility and believes it will further decrease economic activity in a part of town that already struggles to attract economic development. This follows Jones' earlier outreach to the Department for Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem.
