Apple has named its new CEO, John Ternus, with Johny Srouji taking over as head of hardware. This move is seen as a crucial step towards Apple's commitment to developing in-house chips for all devices. The company's strategy allows Apple to integrate hardware and software, while avoiding unnecessary use of precious compute power. Srouj, who led the team that produces Apple's in-shop chips, will be effective immediately. His appointment underscores Apple's focus on developing more types of chips than previously, reducing reliance on external suppliers like Intel, Qualcomm, and Broadcom. Apple's chip team has expanded to thousands of engineers across the world, including in Israel, Austria, the U.K., Japan and U.S. As part of a $600 billion investment commitment through 2029, Apple is working towards creating an end-to-end silicon supply chain in the United States.
