Blizzards could pummel Midwest as massive winter storm set to slam millions, disrupt travel
Published on March 14, 2026.
A powerful winter storm is expected to arrive late Saturday and continue through Monday, bringing significant snow and high winds to the Midwest and Great Lakes, causing significant disruption to travel across the regions. Millions across the Northern Tier are under Winter Weather Alerts, from Montana through Michigan, and Winter Storm Watches have been issued across much of the western Great Lakes. The heaviest snowfall is expected from eastern Minnesota through central Wisconsin into northern Michigan, where several feet of snow could fall by Monday evening. Delta is processing cancellations at Midwest airports, including Minneapolis-St. Paul hub, and more airlines are expected to follow suit. The area of low pressure moving into the Great Lakes will rapidly intensify due to the strong pressure gradient, potentially becoming a bomb cyclone as it moves further into Canada.
