The procedure was particularly traumatic after her husband, Richard Gilliland, died from a heart condition. Smart, who was in the middle of filming a scene at the time, consulted three heart surgeons before undergoing the procedure and expressed her gratitude for her decision to undergo the procedure. She also encouraged her followers to be proactive about their health, stating that she is glad she did.
