Louis Sarkozy, a former French president's son, is running for the 2026 Menton mayoral election in a French Riviera town, using his household name and Trump-inflected brand of right-wing politics to overcome a strong far-right rival rooted in traditional French nationalism. He is supported by LR (Les Republicains), Renaissance and Horizons parties in an effort to prevent a National Rally (RN) victory. Sarkozy's political platform is tailored to local themes such as a housing crisis and crime, while he is tough on crime and supports the decriminalization of drugs. He also supports the U.S. entrepreneurial economic model, arguing that France was hamstrung by restrictive labour laws and a pension system that was no longer fit for purpose. Despite being pro-Trump, Sarkozy said he judged him on a case-by-case basis.
