‘Matilda the Musical’ Star Alisha Weir to Lead Coming-of-Age Comedy Feature ‘Underdogs’

Alisha Weir, the star of "Matilda the Musical" and "The Rev" is set to play the lead role of two teenage girls, Nel and Zadie, who run away from foster care and find themselves competing at the world-famous pedigree dog show Crufts. The film is the debut film from writer and director Fabia Martin, inspired by young people who grew up in the care system and thrive despite it. The adventure comedy follows the girls' search for freedom and family as they navigates the West Country. Amber Grappy (“One Day”) will play the girls’ social worker, Patricia, who is determined to find them and bring them home before their foster mother can reach them. The BAFTA-nominated film is produced by Candid Broads Productions and is scheduled to shoot in the UK next year.
