The term has been used in numerous online conversations, including those of transmasculine people and trans women. Louis Lindley, a researcher who has written papers on the sexualization of trans and nonbinary people, argues that fetishization involves someone with power reducing another person to one specific component of their identity. He also notes that trans women have also been a focus as they are subject to high rates of violence at the hands of trans men and women.
