Decentraland, a decentralised virtual world project, has launched on the Epic Games Store and Google Play as part of a strategy to expand to where people already are. The move comes as a strategic move by the project, which has struggled with the perception that its virtual world is less populated than other mainstream titles. The launch is seen as an attempt to address a distribution problem that no amount of blockchain architecture could fix. The mobile launch follows a similar strategy, with the Android app on Google Play and an iOS version expected soon. The timing of this move aligns with that of Meta, which recently cut 1,500 Reality Labs employees and cut its metaverse budget by 30% and shut down Horizon Worlds on VR headsets. Despite criticism of the platform's economics, DecENTraland's native MANA token trades at roughly $0.08, down from its peak above $5 during the 2021 crypto bull run. The project claims to have around 8,000 monthly unique clients on its client client, with daily visitors up 23% since mid-2025 following the release of its desktop client.
